40SEVEN -First to use revolutionary GPR system

23rd May 2008

40SEVEN were recently the first company in the UK to deploy a new revolutionary ground penetrating radar system. In response to our client’s urgent request for a void location survey at a pipeline transit depot in Wales, we opted for the Swedish manufactured imaging radar array system MIRA, which enables data to be captured ten times quicker than traditionally used technologies.

The site in question had undergone several changes of use over recent decades and a void opened up in the ground. Operations on site ground to a halt and 40SEVEN’s surveyors were called in to survey an area spanning 8,000m² to detect any further voids and sub-surface anomalies.

As our client required a rapid response, it was decided that a unique combination of rapid data collection and the latest in Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) techniques were required to deliver the results in the shortest possible time-frame. The MIRA system, which consists of 16 separate transmitter and receiver antennas, enabled our surveying team to scan and map the entire area in just a few hours – as opposed to a few days as would have been the case with traditionally used GPR equipment. We analysed the cross sections of data and imported them into AutoCAD and the initial data results were processed and returned to our client within just 48 hours.

The speed with which we responded to our client’s request, combined with the introduction of new ground-breaking technology, are testament to our company’s ability to provide the right solutions to challenging operational demands.
