We will work safely or not at all

WE WILL WORK SAFELY OR NOT AT ALL.  That’s it. No Compromises.

Understanding the potential life-changing consequences of getting it wrong, personally and collectively, helps us make the right decisions when it comes to protecting peoples Health, Safety and Wellbeing.

01

Our Approach

Our surveyors have the necessary tickets to work in a variety of environments: Rail; Construction; Highways; Utilities. Our Project Managers are all IOSH and CITB trained and are familiar with working under CDM. But tickets and training are only part of the story and can be meaningless if the culture isn’t right.

So, from induction and afterwards, we emphasise to our people that nothing we do is worth putting health or safety at risk, even if that means stopping the job. Or not doing it at all. We have rewarded them for doing exactly that.

Their training raises their awareness of the reasons behind accidents, the differences in individual risk perception and the consequences of getting it wrong – and then how to deal with these potential problems.

Twice a year, we take all our people completely away from their day-to-day work to discuss safety issues: in small groups over a month (Take It To the Teams), and then later in the year at a full safety stand-down day (Stop For Safety).

These two events, with their interactive presentations and discussions on health, safety and wellbeing themes take a lot of time, effort and money to put together, but they’re a big part of what we do. That’s it.

Why 40SevenWhat sets 40SEVEN apart?

  • We ask questions of clients to ensure we know about site hazards and can put suitable controls in place.
  • Our Safe System of Work will include the right resources and timescales to work safely.
  • We will stop the job if we think it is not safe to continue and work with our clients to make the work safe before continuing.

We have been asked to survey complex and deep confined spaces without suitable rescue provision to keep costs down. We didn’t. We’ve been asked to survey service tunnels with damaged lining fabric without access to an asbestos survey. We didn’t.

This approach is rarely the easiest option, and often involves doing that bit extra. But it protects our people, our company and our clients. No Compromises.
