NATIONAL GRID TRANSCO

We brought in 40seven to assist in planning a route for diverting an existing 18” gas main for the proposed Merseytram project, this 18” main was in a major junction in Liverpool City centre and severe restrictions were placed on us by the local authority.I believe the response and the service provided by 40seven were invaluable in  providing us with the confidence to plan a route and formulate a traffic management plan well in advance to starting on site

BOLTON COUNCIL – Environmental Services

“In undertaking a pedestrianisation scheme within Bolton Town Centre we needed accurate positioning of all underground services. 40Seven carried out a detailed survey, the results of which have proved valuable when making design decisions.”

Simon Butt (Chartered Engineer)

THE UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX - Estates & Facilities Management Division.

Paul Feast is the Head of Estates & Infrastructure at the University of Sussex.  Paul confirmed that his institution is to, imminently, renew its aging 1960's district heating system and that this will be one of the most difficult projects to be undertaken on campus.

Paul said, 'Not only will this scheme be extremely challenging from a logistical point of view, but there are other issues such as the significant trenching and pipe-laying works that will occur on campus, the control and management of vehicle movements, etc.'

Paul added that, 'In addition, the timescale is tight and there is no room in the programme of work for unplanned events such as damage to mains electricity, gas and water supplies.

To this end, 40SEVEN engineers and technicians were engaged to undertake a thorough survey of the underground utilities during the tendering period to enable the bidding contractors to fully understand the complexity of the site. The drawings supplied by 40 SEVEN during the tender submission stage enabled the bidding contractors to accurately price the work and preventing damage to the underground services during their trenching and pipe-laying activities.

UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER

“At the moment there are six buildings going up, all worth around £40m, and contractors at each site have done topographic surveys”
Tony Malchin

“Initially we just wanted to trace the high voltage (HV) cables but then we decided to go a step further”
Andy Belcher

“The university is in a state of flux and new services are constantly going in. It was potentially a logistical nightmare”.
Andy Belcher

“We are starting to find that this information is going beyond simply providing utility locations for contractors. The fire brigade used it last week to check the location of hydrants”

SEVERN TRENT WATER

40SEVEN has already built a reputation as a dedicated underground utility surveying business, but with its recent acquisition by IETG, it now offers a complete surveying solution to clients that includes gas hazard surveying and measured building surveys. This is good news for clients as Mike Fairlamb, Delivery Manager for Severn Trent Water commented,

"As we had already appointed 40SEVEN as a framework contractor, the additional services that can now be supplied means that they can utilise the most appropriate surveying technique to enable the provision of the data we require. It's also a really good example of 'joined up thinking' and best practice, as we can be confident that there is no repetition in the work being carried out and the resultant data is all plotted onto one drawing resulting in a comprehensive overview of what is above and below the ground. It is also cost effective as there is only one contractor doing the work."

"One thing that particularly impresses me is the detail and accuracy of the topographical surveys. The experience and professional approach of the team at 40SEVEN, along with their adherence to the agreed timescales, is also worthy of note."

Mike Fairlamb, Delivery Manager
